I have a key without a password but it never leaves the computer that it was created on and it is secured through other means... I also have a key with a password that travels with me.

But you are right... for a general rule of thumb always use passwords on your key files.

Thanks Tony !

After restarting router this works like a charm !

But I would not recommend to add a private key without password,
use "Add Key" in PageAnt.exe (putty package) then password only
has to be entered once. If a shortcut is made to PageAnt the path
to *.ppk file could be given there. Right-click on PageAnt icon
in toolbar to restart one of the saved sessions.

Also works for guruplug's, and other linux-boxes, from home folder:
echo ...your key ... >> .ssh/authorized_keys
