I’ll Turn Gay to Rebel

Filed under: Politics — Tony @ 3:34 pm

When did the government of the free nation become the platform to impose religious beliefs? Wasn’t this country discovered by men who fled from such persecution? What happened to the separation of the church and state?

I ask these questions because it would seem that the current gay marriage bans regard religion. It would seem to me that the ideals of religion are being forced onto the masses of a nation who prides itself in freedom on such matters.

I am a Christian who believes the Bible is the true word of God. I believe that active homosexuals are sinners and if they remain unrepentant they will go to hell. Yet, I still believe people should be allowed to take part in any activity as long as that activity does not infringe on the right of yet another. This is what freedom, the fleeting condition in which we all have responsible rights, means to me.

Not only does a gay marriage ban contradict a right of freedom, but it contradicts teachings of the Bible. The Lord does not want his laws to be imposed onto people by a government, but instead the Lord wants his laws to be followed out of love for him and his great sacrifice. I understand people aren’t dragged into heaven kicking and screaming and this ban in-effect will accomplish nothing of the Lord’s will. I wonder how many of these voters would have turned out to vote for a law outlawing premarital sex. The hypocrisy of these religious zealots is outstanding. The only thing a gay marriage ban will accomplish is to create a unified gay front and in turn widen the schism that separates religion and homosexuals. In the end it will only prove to make it harder for real Christians to minister to homosexuals.

Since religion is not a sound base of laws in a free nation then let us look at the arguments removed from the context of religion. 1. They can’t reproduce – Surely there are heterosexual couples who are unable to reproduce. Should we not also deny them marriage by the same logic? 2. Where will it stop? – It did not stop at class, race, age, or religion; it should not stop at gender. Where will it stop? It stops at intellectual species; humankind thus far. 3. Homosexuals choose to be gay – Ask yourself, could you choose to be homosexual?

I feel comfort in knowing that in 20-40 years from now our society will look back and wonder how people could have been this inconsiderate just as we do now with those who were in opposition of interclass and interracial marriages, and giving the slaves and women equal rights.
